The “Safe Summer 2015” operation ran from 15 June to 15 September with the total number of arrests including 1,332 people detained for drink driving, 469 for drug trafficking and a further 313 for theft or robbery.
The operation also spanned the seizure of 1,110 weapons, including 119 firearms, 310,000 doses of a panoply of drugs, 545 vehicles and 52 kilos of explosives.
These resulted from some 6,500 inspections, including 800 visits to establishments suspected of failing to keep to officially stipulated timetables, lacking a book of complaints or other private security related incidents.
This came in addition to over 72,000 traffic-related incidents, with 48,467 drivers subject to the breathalyser, 17,131 picked up for speeding with a further 2,238 attracting police attention for being on the phone while driving.
In terms of accidents, the statement identified a total of 13,074 over this period, up from 12,544 in 2014, with eleven fatalities, down four on last year.
The statement highlighted that of the 4,000 plus residences that had requested police surveillance during the period their owners were absent on holiday, there was not a single break-in.
The PSP also reported that its “I’m Here” Programme, which involves tagging children under the age of nine so that parents may locate them, should they stray on the beach for example, was applied to over 50,000 children with the project’s success resulting in its continuity.
