A series of house raids were carried out in the crackdown on violent crime, which was launched at around 7.15am this morning.

News channel SIC reported the raids were related to an incident which took place in Porto Alto, Santarém, on Friday, in which a man was killed and a GNR officer was injured in a shootout.

Newspaper Correio da Manhã said the PJ’s objective was to catch armed assailants suspected of holding up and robbing cigarette-transport vans and who are accomplices of the men who were chased last Friday.
