Running from Wednesday to Sunday, the festival aims to prove to its visitors that there is so much more that can be done with the humble sardine than simply grilling them.
For the traditionalists, thirteen of the 28 participating restaurants will be sticking to the typical way of cooking the small fish, by barbequing it on charcoal.
And for those who like to push the boundaries, the other 15 establishments have come up with intriguing and tasty ways of preparing the delicacy to show it in a whole new light.
Some of Portugal’s top entertainers such as singer Carminho and comedian Herman José will be providing entertainment at the festival, which takes place along Portimão’s riverside.
