Lisbon city council has altered or removed 700 road signs since the start of the year to improve mobility for pedestrians and drivers.
Mobility councillor, Carlos Castro, spoke to Lusa during a visit to remove four sign posts in the company of the Secretary of State for the Disabled, Ana Sofia Antunes.
“What one has to understand is that what we are doing here is improving mobility for pedestrians while making the signs easier to see for the motorists”, the councilor said.
The works involve replacing old signs with new ones, moving sign posts or removing them to avoid redundant signs.
“The works will be moving block by block, road by road so that we can see the kinds of signs that are no longer necessary, or no longer have any meaning and can easily be removed”, he said.
Ana Sofia Antunes added that “cleaning up this rubbish” makes “life easier for everybody”.
