The leader of Portugal’s Socialist Party (PS) on Tuesday said that he will propose in the parliament a formal condemnation of Chega’s MP, André Ventura, for "xenophobia" after he suggested the deportation of the MP of Livre, Joacine Katar Moreira.

Joacine Katar Moreira presented a proposal for the return of existing heritage in Portuguese museums to the countries of origin in the former colonies of Portugal, which led André Ventura to propose the return of this member of Livre to her country of origin.

"The PS strongly condemns the statements made against a member, which are xenophobic. The invitation made to any citizen to leave and return to their country of origin is unacceptable in a democratic society and is unacceptable in Portugal. For the PS, this will not happen without a formal condemnation in the proper space, which is parliament," Ana Catarina Mendes said.
