The suspect was arrested following a PSP investigation launched in September 2016.
In a statement, the police force explained the man would use physical force, psychological coercion, and in some cases weapons to rob young students of their mobile phones.
“He caused blatant fear and upset among the school community, spreading panic and therefore achieving growing notoriety”, the PSP explained.
The authorities stressed the importance of the participation of the local community, in reporting situations and being helpful to the case.
The 19-year-old suspect was detained on 25 January and after an initial court hearing has been ordered to make daily check-ins at a local police station as well as being banned from having any contact with his victims.
