According to Faro District Aid Operations Command, the accident occurred after 10:30AM, in Murteira, between Fuseta and Tavira, “it resulted in the death of a man and a woman, the motorcycle occupants”.
According to the source, the causes of the collision are unknown and it is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Centre for Road Accidents of the Republican National Guard.
The rescue operations involved 17 operational people from Olhão Volunteer Firefighters, GNR and the National Institute of Medical Emergency, supported by seven vehicles.
Some bikers cruise on Portugal’s roads as if no basic rules such as speed and noise limits apply. They have to show off that they own the road! “Hey guys, here I come! Watch me!” More often than desired they pass you at close range at high speed in heavy traffic or densely populated areas! I have noticed it often enough when living or vacationing there. Last year spring, I almost witnessed an accident exactly on the same N125 road between Tavira and Olhão when visiting a friend. So, it’s no surprise to realize when checking the stats that the number of accidents per capita involving bikers is in Portugal among the highest in Western Europe.
