The water company, ADPF told Lusa that the recent court decision "is a breach of current legislation and the instructions from the Water and Residue Service Regulator (ERSAR) and may harm public health, apart from going against case law from higher courts ".
The court decision came after a case the company files “against the consumer".
The court decided that the water and sanitation agreement can be freely revoked by a consumer, "so long as they give written notice to the company".
The water concessionaire in Paços de Ferreira insisted that according to ERSAR, "connections are mandatory if there is a public water and sewage network within 20 metres of the property’s boundaries".
The price of water in Paços de Ferreira, which is provided by a private company, is one of the highest in the country, which has caused protests by local residents against the current town council.
