They are calling upon volunteers to help clean the beaches of Armação de Pêra.
The initiative takes place this Sunday, 13 May, from 9am on Armação de Pêra beach and Praia Grande in Pêra.
Silves council invites all interested to join the campaign and give up some free time to support ‘Operation Clean Beach’, Sunday morning, between 9am and 1pm. (Sign up via facebook: www.facebook.com/events/612906279051873/)
While increased tourism brings much needed revenues to the economy, this has to be balanced with making sure all the beaches enforce much stricter anti litter regulations.Otherwise people will destroy what others come to see.
Maybe local companies can sponsor all the beaches and have clean up days.
Ban single use plastics and plastic straws.
Have more signs up telling people to pick up their litter.
Put more bins around.
Let's not destroy the stunning coastline in pursuit of short term profits.
Raise awareness and tell people not to be selfish.
