Vouchers to improve energy efficiency

The Minister of the Environment has announced that the ministry plans to issue vouchers for needy families to invest in improving the energy efficiency of buildings.

Of the €400 million that there is to invest in energy efficiency in buildings, part of this budget will be used in the issuing of vouchers for the neediest families,” said the Minister of Environment and of Climate Action, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, who answered a question from the deputy of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Filipa Roseta, about the State Budget 2021.

“I am not saying that these investments can be made at 100 percent, in some cases there will have to be a voucher issued in advance”, said the minister.

The PSD party had previously announced in August that it was going to propose that the State finance 100 percent of works to improve the energy efficiency of buildings for about 150,000 low-income to families, as part of the strategic programme for the decade, according to Lusa News Agency.

Portugal is a country with low levels of energy efficiency, and consequently, with high values of energy poverty and energy intensity. In this sense, the PSD party already proposes a vast programme to improve energy efficiency, allocating to that programme a significant part of 30 percent of EU Recovery Programme funds, which must be allocated to energy transition measures”, stressed the party.
