The only countries with better rates than Portugal are Spain (23.8 per 100,000), Finland (26.2), Sweden (27.0) and Lithuania (27.8). The breast cancer mortality rate for 2020 across the European Union is 34.1 deaths per 100,000 women.

The report estimates that the death rate from breast cancer in Portugal in 2020 is 28 deaths per 100 thousand women.

The OECD report notes, however, that the estimates don’t take into account the possible impact of the covid-19 pandemic, which "severely conditioned" breast cancer screening and treatment programmes in the first half of 2020.
