The Little Portugal Commercial Association on Dundas street, the Toronto City Council, the Consulate General of Portugal and the Street Art project are the promoters of the initiative, and are inviting artists from the region to present an artistic decoration for the 100 kilogram rooster, the Canadian municipality announced in a statement.

"The concrete statue, with a dimension of 2.8 meters by 1.9 meters, offered for this purpose by the municipality of Barcelos and will work with a blank canvas, ready to receive the creativity of the artist, who should be inspired by one of two identifying narratives for organizing the contest: the universal meaning of the rooster as a solar symbol and the original story of the Rooster of Barcelos ", the note says.

Galo de Barcelos, one of the main symbols of Portugal, will be installed next to the number 1212 of Dundas Street West, on Lakeview Avenue Parkette.

The proposal aims to add a list of artistic collaboration that will be reduced based on relevant professional credentials and preliminary design concepts.

The final designs will be presented virtually to the community and the trade association on April 8, 2021.

The artists will be contacted until March 5, 2021, receiving 1,500 Canadian dollars (966 euros) to develop the final concept, budget and material needed for the work, using a miniature.

Interested parties must submit their applications by 23:59 on 14 February. For more information you can consult the website: streetartto.submittable.com.
