According to the DGS bulletin, 346 patients are now hospitalised in infirmary, 19 less than on Monday, and 86 in intensive care units, five less.

Since the beginning of the pandemic Portugal has recorded 834,991 confirmed cases and 16,970 deaths.

The number of hospitalisations both in infirmary and intensive care units have values close to those recorded in September 2020.

Regarding the number of new cases, today's figures are similar to those recorded in recent weeks, with daily fluctuations.

Today there are five deaths, after none were counted on Monday, the second day that there were no deaths since the start of the pandemic.

There are 23,816 active cases in Portugal, 846 fewer than on Monday and the number of contacts under surveillance by health authorities has increased by 200, now totalling 25,011.

The data also reveals that 1,194 people have been reported recovered, bringing the total number since the start of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020 to 794,205.

According to the latest DGS data, Portugal currently has 2,962,794 people vaccinated against Covid-19, of which 796,791 are already immunised with both doses.

The transmissibility index (Rt) of the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus in Portugal rose to 0.99 while the incidence of cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days dropped to 70.4 according to data released on Monday.

The previous figures for these indicators, released on Friday, showed an Rt of 0.98 and an incidence of 72.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The Rt and incidence data are updated on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Of the total number of deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, two occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region and three in the Centre region.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 81 new infections have been reported, with 315,879 cases and 7,193 deaths counted so far.

The North region has 154 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic has counted 335,387 cases of infection and 5,337 deaths.

These two regions now account for 66.5 percent of all new infections.

In the Centre region 47 more cases were registered, accumulating 118,521 infections and 3,014 deaths.

In the Alentejo 28 more cases were reported, totalling 29,754 infections and 970 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that 10 new cases have been registered, accumulating 21,588 infections and 357 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has registered 20 cases, accounting for 9,161 infections and 68 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now has 13 new cases and has counted 4,701 cases and 31 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the DGS.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 378,778 men and 455,907 women in Portugal, DGS data show, according to which there are 306 cases of unknown gender, which are under investigation, as this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatal victims, 8,912 were men and 8,058 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 11,167 were people aged over 80, 3,613 were aged between 70 and 79, and 1,519 were aged between 60 and 69.
