Without questioning the importance of the measure, the CDU councillor, Ilda Figueiredo, questioned the executive about the possibility of extending the free public transportation to citizens with more than 60 percent disability, as approved by the Matosinhos City Hall at the beginning of the month.

In response, the Councillor responsible for Transport, Cristina Pimentel, said that the title "Porto." is only for young people between 13 and 18 years old, pointing out that there are other fares, such as the social one, which also includes citizens with disabilities.

The Municipality of Porto has extended, in the school year 2019/2020 free public transport up to 15 years old for young residents of Porto and up to 18 years old in the school year 2020/21.

The measure was intended to complement the Programme to Support the Reduction of Public Transport Fares (PART), which among other measures established in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, the free tickets up to 12 years.

The proposal, which was approved by all political forces, reveals that in the school year 2019/2020 about 45 percent of students aged 13 to 15 years used the public transport system for free, with more than 2,900 passes issued, translated into more than 51,000 average monthly rides.
