According to the epidemiological bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) there are now 829 people hospitalised with Covid-19, 28 fewer compared to Monday, 186 of which are in intensive care, three less in the last 24 hours.

The Lisbon and Vale do Tejo area has 747 cases and the North region with 794 have 69% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.

The 17 deaths occurred in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (13), in the North region (2) in Alentejo (2).

Regarding the victims' ages, the bulletin reveals that nine were over 80 years old, seven between 70 and 79 years old and one between 60 and 69 years old.

Of the total number of deaths in the last 24 hours, 10 were male and seven female.

Regarding the 2,232 infections in the last 24 hours, the bulletin records that 146 are between 0 and 9 years old, 484 between 10 and 19 years old, 542 between 20 and 29 years old, 329 between 30 and 39 years old, 270 between 40 and 49 years old , 197 between 50 and 59 years old, 145 between 60 and 69 years old, 71 between 70 and 79 years old and 48 over 80 years old.

Data released by the DGS also show that there are 1,490 fewer active cases, totalling 43,244, and that 3,705 people were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 929,547 recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,502 people have died in Portugal and 990,293 cases of infection have been registered.

The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 747 new infections, has so far accounted for 386,820 cases and 7,487 deaths.

In the Northern region, 794 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 382,656 cases of infection and 5,458 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Centre region there were 307 more cases, totalling 132,162 infections and 3,056 deaths.

In the Alentejo, another 85 cases were reported, totalling 34,749 infections and 990 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, the bulletin reveals that 207 new cases were registered, accumulating 35,027 infections and 401 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 29 new cases, totalling 10,918 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores now have 63 new cases, accounting for 7,961 cases and 38 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Of the total number of fatalities, 9,192 were men and 8,310 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total deaths, 11,445 were over 80 years old, 3,746 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,586 were between 60 and 69 years old.

As for infections, the bulletin reveals that of the total of 990,293 people infected since the beginning of the pandemic, 59,288 were between 0 and 9 years old, 100,964 between 10 and 19 years old, 155,802 between 20 and 29 years old, 146,829 between 30 and 39 years old, 162,090 between 40 and 49 years old, 138,297 between 50 and 59 years old, 93,836 between 60 and 69 years old, 60,226 between 70 and 79 years old and 72,961 over 80 years old.

The incidence rate of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infections (average of new cases per 100,000 population in the last 14 days) is currently 336.1 nationwide.

In mainland Portugal, the incidence rate is 341.4 cases.

The Rt - which estimates the number of secondary cases of infection resulting from a person carrying the virus - is 0.93 throughout the territory of Portugal.

The Rt data and the incidence of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants within 14 days - indicators that make up the risk matrix for monitoring the pandemic - are updated by the health authorities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
