According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) 681 people are hospitalised today with covid-19, 14 fewer than on Thursday, 136 of which in intensive care units, four less in the last 24 hours.
The area of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 586 new cases and the North region, with 630, have 66.7% of the total of new infections verified in the last 24 hours.
The deaths occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region (2), in the North region (1) and in the Centre region (3).
Regarding the ages of the victims, four were over 80 years old, one between 70 and 79 and one between 60 and 69.
Regarding the age characterisation of new confirmed cases of infection, it is in young people between 20 and 29 years old (men and women) that there were more cases, with 397 more infected in the last 24 hours.
The following are the age groups between 10 and 19 years old (312 new cases) and between 30 and 39 years old (255 new cases).
Data released by the DGS also show that there are 648 fewer active cases, totalling 43,309, and that 2,464 people were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the national total to 983,063 recovered.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,772 people have died in Portugal and 1,044,144 cases of infection have been registered.
The region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with the notification of 586 new infections, has so far accounted for 404,864 cases and 7,599 deaths.
In the Northern region, 630 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 were registered, totalling 401,833 cases of infection and 5,514 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Centre region there were 297 more cases, accumulating 139,268 infections and 3,100 deaths.
In the Alentejo, another 90 cases were reported, totalling 37,540 infections and 1,008 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the Algarve region, the bulletin registers 205 cases, accumulating 40,284 infections and 438 deaths.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira registered 13 new cases, totalling 11,787 infections and 72 deaths due to covid-19 since March 2020.
The Azores now have a new case, accounting for 8,568 cases and 41 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.
The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 481,840 men and 561,569 women, show data from the DGS, according to which there are 735 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since this information is not provided automatically.
Of the total number of fatalities, 9,323 were men and 8,449 women.
The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
Of the total number of deaths, 11,602 were over 80 years old, 3,808 were aged between 70 and 79 years old, and 1,616 were between 60 and 69 years old.
