As of 1 December, the Algarve has a new bus transport service that is being operated by VIZUR, a service from Eva Transportes, which won the international public tender launched by AMAL.

“This starts a new phase of road transport in the region”, said AMAL (an entity that brings together the 16 municipalities of the district of Faro) in a statement.

The same source added that, "in this context, of the 106 bus routes of regular road transport in the Algarve, AMAL is responsible for the management of 98 routes, with the service being performed by the winner of the tender, EVA Transportes, through VIZUR Transport”.

“The implementation of the VAMUS – Transportes do Algarve network brings to the region a wider offer, with new regular routes, a new on-demand transport service - in places with more than 40 inhabitants - and a new Aerobus Service, which will allow direct or semi-direct connections between some municipalities (including stops in Lagos, Portimão, Lagoa and ALbufeira) in the Algarve and Faro Airport”, stated AMAL.

In the same note, they stated that the new service has "a new corporate image", in addition to the renewal of the buses, with improvements in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and accessibility, ensuring "mobile ticketing, free transport of bikes in some routes” and Wi-Fi on board.

“Users of long-distance services can now check timetables and buy tickets online through the website https://vamusalgarve.pt or via App”, the note continues.

The Algarve's municipalities also mentioned “the creation of a single pass that will allow residents and tourists to use public transport in the region through a single transport ticket is being studied”.

According to AMAL, this measure can contribute to reducing the use of private vehicles, as people will be better able to start using public transport in the Algarve.

AMAL also stressed that “urban transport in Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira, Loulé, Faro, Olhão and Tavira will continue to be managed by the respective municipalities”.
