The number of deaths recorded today is the highest in the last 10 months, when on March 3, 41 people died of Covid-19.
Daily infections recorded today, for the third consecutive day, more than 40,000 cases, after reaching 40,945 on Wednesday, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, and on Thursday 40,134.
According to the daily report on the epidemiological situation released by the DGS, there are now 1,699 patients hospitalised in the ward, the same number as on Thursday, and in the Intensive Care Units the 162 are also hospitalised.
Active cases continue to increase and in the last 24 hours, 12,632 more were counted, totalling 299,597, and 27,424 people recovered from the disease, which increases the national total of recovered to 1,495,733.
Of the 34 deaths, 13 occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 12 in the North, four in the Centre region, three in Madeira, one in Alentejo and another in the Algarve.
The North region is currently the one with the most new cases, with 15,914, followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (14,513), with these two regions accounting for 75% of new infections.
The Centre region recorded 4,589 new infections in the last 24 hours, Madeira 2,193, Algarve 1,224, Alentejo 1,207 and Azores 450.
Compared to the situation recorded in Portugal on the same day a year ago, in which 10,698 new infections were recorded, the country now has 29,392 more new cases.
According to DGS data, 23 of the 34 fatalities were over 80 years old, seven were between 70 and 79 years old, two were between 60 and 69 years old and another two were between 50 and 59 years old.
The highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old (12,454), followed by the age groups between 70 and 79 years old (4,182) and between 60 and 69 years old (1,769).
The largest number of new diagnosed cases is in the age group between 40 and 49 years old (7,620), followed by 30 to 39 years old (6,656), 20 to 29 years old (6,491), 50 and 59 years old (5,529 ), between 10 and 19 years old (5,207), up to 9 years old (3,547), between 60 and 69 years old (2,736), between 70 and 79 years old (1,429) and elderly people over 80 years old (878) .
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has recorded 718,425 cases and 8,104 deaths.
In the North region, there were 662,718 infections and 5,846 deaths and the Central region now has an accumulated total of 243,383 infections and 3,396 deaths.
The Algarve has a total of 70,926 infections and 603 deaths and Alentejo has 60,866 cases and 1,098 deaths from covid-19.
The Autonomous Region of Madeira has had 41,489 infections and 135 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and the Azores archipelago 16,760 cases and 55 deaths.
The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information disclosed in the DGS bulletin.
In Portugal, since March 2020, 19,237 people have died, 10,123 were men and 9,114 were women.
