“Public supply is guaranteed as there is a reserve for two years of supply. However, it is important to appeal for the sustainable use of water by the population, avoiding the waste of water in everyday uses, car washing and filling private swimming pools”, says the APA, in a response sent to Lusa.

Since February 1, energy production has been suspended in five dams due to the low replacement of volumes stored in the reservoirs, the observed precipitation values, significantly below average, and to guarantee the volumes necessary for priority uses.

The APA told Lusa that the conditioning of energy production in the Alto Lindoso, Alto Rabagão, Cabril, Castelo do Bode and Vilar Tabuaço dams is being constantly reassessed, depending on the continuation of the suspension on the evolution of the situation.

The agency supervised by the Ministry of the Environment also guarantees that it checks weekly the need to implement measures in view of the evolution of the situation.
