According to a report by Público, Roman Abramovich heads the board of directors of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FCJR), the body that certified him as Sephardic, allowing him to guarantee naturalisation as a Portuguese. However, the involvement of the Russian millionaire is not limited to the Russian Jewish communities, as Abramovich has also made large donations to Jewish institutions around the world.

The newspaper writes that, in addition to donations to Russian Jewish communities, it is estimated that he has donated, in the last two decades, around €500 million to Jewish institutions distributed across Russia and Israel, as well as in the United States, United Kingdom, Lithuania and Portugal.
