The Agency for the Integrated Management of Rural Fires (AGIF) has delivered to the Assembly of the Republic the activity report of the Integrated Management System of Rural Fires for 2021.

In the document, which has since been made public, it is noted that in 2021 there were fewer fires, less area burned and fewer deaths, with 316 million euros being invested that year in rural fire risk management (9% more than in 2020), 46% for prevention and 54% for suppression.

With fewer fires (8,223), less burned area (28,415 hectares) and fewer deaths (six), the year 2021 “confirms the dynamics of changing the population’s risk behaviours”, since practically “all fires are caused by human,” says the AGIF report.
