Despite the claim that drive-ins initially appeared in 1910, the first one to be trademarked was built in 1933 in New Jersey by a young businessman named Richard Hollingshead. He worked as the sales manager for his father's Camden business, Whiz Auto Products, according to the History channel. It cites that “He was a movie fan and was reportedly inspired by his mother’s struggle to sit comfortably in traditional cinema seats. Hollingshead came up with the idea of an open-air theatre where people could watch films from the comfort of their own cars. The idea then obviously caught on and although it grew in popularity, it is still uncommon to find in Portugal which is why you are not going to want to miss out on the 3rd edition of Drive-in Lagos.
