The arrests resulted from a series of operations carried out by the GNR across the country, between the 29th of July and the 4th of August, aimed at preventing and combating crime and road accidents.
552 people were arrested, the majority (211) for driving under the influence of alcohol and for driving without a legal license (111), according to GNR data released in a statement.
58 were also detained on suspicion of drug trafficking, 19 for theft and robbery, 17 for illegal possession of weapons and nine for domestic violence.
During the operation, the GNR also seized about 7,500 doses of hashish, 1,887 stamps of LSD, 1,306.95 doses of cocaine, 928.8 doses of heroin and 18 MDMA tablets.
I know Portugal is not like the US (thank God,) in so many ways and I greatly respect the customs and am trying to learn the language. In the US they are very specific that when a person is over the .08 limit of alcohol (usually above 2 drinks) BAC (blood alcohol content) and this is considered "Drunk Driving." Why is it "drink driving" in Portugal because I can "drink" oj and not be affected?

The limit is .5 in Portugal and most of the rest of Europe.
