Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that the evolution of prices must be “very carefully monitored” in the coming months: “If it is going to keep going up, or if it goes down slightly, as the latest numbers seem to show, or if it drops closer to the end of the year”.

However, “until then, families and companies suffer”, he continued, in statements to journalists broadcast by CNN Portugal.

In this sense, it is necessary to know what measures Europe and Portugal will adopt “to face this situation in the coming months”.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that it is necessary “to know when this will appear, now in September, before the State Budget for 2023”, because “there are measures that are very urgent and other measures that have to be foreseen for the coming year".

In the case of Portugal, the Government should approve a set of support for family income and business activity because of the impact of inflation on Monday, which reached 9% in August.
