As the five times winner of the trophy (2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017), the last time Ronaldo was the Portuguese number two was in 2006, when he was in 14th place, beaten by Portuguese-Brazilian Deco, who finished in 11th.

In the last 14 editions - in 2020 the prize was not awarded, due to the Covid-19 pandemic - Ronaldo was always the best Portuguese player.

This year, Ronaldo closes the 'top 20', ahead of Bernardo Silva (22nd) and João Cancelo (25th), both from Manchester City, but behind Rafael Leão, considered the best player in Serie A.

Rafael Leão, 23 years old, appears in 14th place, on par with the Brazilian Fabinho (Liverpool).

The AC Milan player was also ahead of Colombian Luis Díaz (played for FC Porto in the first half of last season), who was 17th, and Uruguayan Darwin Núñez (top scorer of the I Liga 2021/22 for Benfica), in 25th place.
