The warning is based on the weather forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), which indicate that in the next few hours “periods of rain or light showers are expected, increasing in intensity and frequency in the southern region from the afternoon onwards”.

For Monday, the forecasts are for “periods of rain or showers, more frequent and intense in the South region, with the possibility of thunderstorms”.

“The conditions for the occurrence of more intense precipitation are highlighted, with an accumulation of between 10 and 20 mm/1h, the most critical period being between 00:00 and 15:00 on December 5th, in the districts of Faro and Beja, as well as the possibility of extreme wind phenomena”, warns Civil Protection.

The Civil Protection recommends clearing drainage systems, securing loose structures, paying particular attention in areas with trees, due to the possibility of falling and breaking branches.
