The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) inspected in Monte Sabino, in Faro, six warehouses. During the operation, "it was found that the owners rented each warehouse for 700 euros a month to the tenants, who put bunk beds there, then subletting each mattress for 100 euros a month".

The source added that the people who live there “are dependent on fellow countrymen, managing partners of companies providing services to provide labour for agricultural holdings, where professional practices are not carried out continuously”.

In total, 132 foreign citizens were identified, all male, four of whom were notified to leave the national territory, reads the note.

SEF indicated in the statement that it will communicate this situation to the competent authorities to verify the living conditions in which these citizens find themselves.

The vast majority of these people are in the process of regularization through the mechanism provided for in paragraph 2 of article 88 of the Law on Foreigners, which establishes the conditions for obtaining a residence permit to carry out a professional activity without requiring a visa.
