According to Lusa, the motto "End barriers in higher education" was chosen for the protest that takes place on the eve of National Student Day.

Around 2:30pm on March 23, hundreds of students gathered in front of the Faculty of Fine Arts, while many others continued to arrive. Shortly after 3pm they began the march towards the Assembly of the Republic.

"Education is a right, without it, nothing is done", "Government, listen to students who are struggling" or "Scholarships yes, tuition fees no" are some of the slogans that echo through the streets of Lisbon.

Young people demand more social action, an end to tuition fees, a revision of the legal regime of higher education institutions, but also student housing solutions, a problem they say has been worsening due to the housing crisis.

The demonstration was called by student associations from 10 higher education institutions, with protests also scheduled in Aveiro, Coimbra, Braga, Covilhã, Évora, Faro and Porto.
