Marco Serrano Augusto, who is also the local commander of the Maritime Police, told Lusa agency that the device, which appears to be mortar ammunition, was found in Praia da Raposa, next to the Pinheiro da Cruz Prison, in Grândola.

“The Detachment of Navy Divers has been activated, which will arrive at 18:00, for deactivation or collection”, he added, noting that the device, which is about 50 centimeters long and without inscriptions, “appears to be empty”.

According to the captain of the Port of Setúbal and local commander of the Maritime Police, if it is confirmed that it is empty, the device will simply be collected, but if itis loaded, it will be detonated and then collected.

Pointing out that Praia da Raposa is not used for bathing purposes, Serrano Augusto said that the Maritime Police had created a security perimeter and had a Maritime Police patrol in place.
