This position of Augusto Santos Silva appears in a video released today, which was recorded on Thursday at the University of Warsaw, where he participated in a conference with students and teachers of Portuguese studies in Poland.

In the same video, the President of the Assembly of the Republic mentions that earlier this week, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, he visited Ukraine, noting then that in Kyiv he also participated in a meeting with students and teachers of Portuguese in that country.

“The Portuguese language, like all languages, is an instrument of peace, communication, creation, expression and interaction between people and peoples. It is therefore very important that the World Portuguese Language Day is celebrated all over the world and not just in Portugal”, stressed the President of the Assembly of the Republic.

“Long live the Portuguese language”, said the former Minister of State and Foreign Affairs.

Afterwards, in a message he published on Twitter, Augusto Santos Silva added that the Portuguese language “unites the five continents”, being spoken by around 300 million people around the world”.

“It is the fifth most used [language] globally,” he added.
