In a press release, APS states that “with the completion of this intervention, the necessary safety conditions are guaranteed for the access and operation of cruise ships in the Port of Portimão, reinforcing operational conditions in the face of the projected growth for 2026.”
According to APS, the intervention was necessary due to “existing limitations on the entry of 220-meter ships, limitations that resulted from the loss of depth caused by silting in the port area.”
The dredging works took place throughout March and were completed ahead of schedule, as the initial forecast had predicted completion only at the end of June.

Probably no one ever asked the people from Dubrovnik, Venice, Rijeka, or other sought after destinations for these humongus cruis villages. They pump waste, sceptic tanks full of excrements down the ports and leave a blanket of dirt over the rooftops, blackening white houses and streets.
It's a fantasy that doesn't leave any income for the cities they arrive at or the city coffers.
Do all say no to this idiocy.
