The mayor of Cuba, João Português, told Lusa agency that the beach will be inaugurated on the 11th, at the Alvito dam, also known as Albergaria dos Fusos.

“It's not just a beach. It is a project that we started about six years ago for an 'Ecopark of the Central Alentejo', because it is a combination of infrastructures that will highlight nature”, stressed the mayor of Cuba.

According to the mayor, in addition to the river beach, other facilities will also be available, such as a nautical centre, a birdwatching tower, support infrastructure, a bar, a restaurant and a river swimming pool.

Located close to the dam wall, the river beach is 250 meters in length, in which an area for sports will be created, said the mayor.

João Português pointed out that the second phase of the project is already underway, which includes the construction of a motorhome park and a cycling centre, with completion expected by October.

As for the third phase, which the installation of a floating walkway is planned that will connect the river pool and a small island in front of the beach, the mayor said that it is being prepared to be completed next year.

“All of this is a unique project that has a pedagogical, leisure and sports component, but also to promote the natural resources that this reservoir and the surrounding area have”, he added.
