Thousands of passengers were unable to travel to and from the UK on Monday due to a technical problem that disrupted the UK's air traffic control.

London Heathrow Airport has recommended that passengers who have flights on Tuesday contact their airlines to find out the status of their trips before heading to the terminal.

London Gatwick Airport has also asked passengers to contact their airlines.

Luton Airport, also in London, warned this Tuesday that flights in the United Kingdom are still subject to delays or cancellations.

UK Transport Minister Mark Harper apologised to travellers on Tuesday for disrupting their travels.

“The system issue was resolved yesterday [Monday] afternoon, but obviously there are some outages that will continue today and I know thousands of people have been affected. I hope that airlines assume their responsibilities to ensure that people return home, provide them with an alternative flight and take care of food, drink and accommodation”, said the minister in a statement.

In the note, Mark Harper ruled out that the technical failure is related to a cybersecurity incident, but added that a report will be made on the incident.
