According to Postal, the parish of Guia, in the municipality of Albufeira, saw improved mobility and safety conditions on one of the town’s busiest arteries due to the inauguration of a new roundabout, strategically located at one of the town’s entrances.

In addition to the objective of improving mobility in the area, the work presents an innovative approach to urban beautification, with a landscape arrangement inspired by waves and climate change.

The construction, which was finalised in 90 days, covers an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. With this new road infrastructure, the municipality intends to promote the fluidity of traffic, improve the safety of motorists and the renovation of the region’s rainwater network.

The highlight of this roundabout lies in its landscape design, created by the landscape architecture team of the Municipality’s Urban Hygiene and Green Spaces Division.

Inspired by waves and the need to adapt to climate change, the project features four planted areas and a leisure zone, located on a small free plot of land between the Passeio da Rua do Mercado and the Passeio da Rua das Escolas.

The new infrastructure also considered other aspects, such as the disposal of solid waste and the installation of new ecological islands on site.

José Carlos Rolo, president of the Albufeira City Council, stated “this is a roundabout which benefits the issue of mobility, as it is a very conflictual area, due to the traffic that exists on the road”.

The mayor explained that the construction of the project highlights the municipality’s commitment to promoting safety, sustainability and quality of life for the local community. José Carlos Rolo concluded his intervention by stressing that “the municipality will continue to invest heavily in these investments, as what we are ultimately interested in is improving the safety of our drivers and pedestrians”.

Francisco Oliveira, president of the Albufeira Municipal Assembly, reinforced that “this is another project included in the strategy defined by the municipality to improve accessibility and reduce accidents in the municipality”.

The inauguration of this roundabout is considered to be an architectural symbol, a step towards a more sustainable and resilient community, where landscape beauty meets urban functionality.
