Ponta Delgada’s Municipal Council, in the Azores, has stated that the festival which aims to showcase environmental practices as well as unique gardens will also feature workshops, performances, environmental activities, and guided tours of various spaces. The Portuguese Association of Historic Gardens (AJH) is supporting the initiative, which is being coordinated in collaboration with the Humanities Centre of the University of the Azores.

The municipality has announced in a press release that the cultural and recreational festival “seeks to involve its participants in the world of plants and living ecosystems, showcasing various productive, environmental and sustainability practices, as well as garden design elements”. The selected areas, which will be on display during the festival, will be public, private or an interconnection, “the most urban and recreational gardens with the most rural and productive”; “the oldest and most historic with the most modern”, Ponta Delgada’s council explained.

Starting at Largo Mártires da Pátria at 2pm local time on the 22 March, the first itinerary of the program includes visits to locations such as Quinta das Bolas, Quinta da Bela Vista, and Quinta Dr. Vítor Santos. In the next day, 23 March, the tour begins in Jardim António Borges at 10am. Along the way, visitors will see the José do Canto Botanical Garden, Jardim de Santana, and Jardim da Assembleia Legislativa. The schedule for the final day, the 24 March, calls for visits to Quinta da Torre, Jardim Pitoresco, Jardim do Pico Salomão, Jardim Mártires da Pátria, the Chá Sete Cidades experimental garden, and Quinta do Bom Despacho.
