Yet most of us continue with our daily lives like she doesn’t exist; ploughing on with our work, running errands, holding space for our families, each step on the hamster wheel, disconnecting us further and further away from the spark of divinity which lies within.

Yet it wasn’t always this way. We used to dance with the phases of the moon and celebrate the goddesses as the wheel of the year turned. For example, Brigid at Imbolc with her flames of purification, and protection, and Cerridwen, on January 7th a crone goddess of wisdom, inspiration, and rebirth.

The earth itself was seen as the embodiment of the goddess energy. The goddess religion existed way before other religions took over the caring aspect of the divine feminine related to the ideas of fertility and creation and took the form of the Great Mother Goddess- Gaia.

Feminine characteristics such as creating (art, music, a homey environment- anything which involves creating, not just creating babies!), nurturing, intuition, mothering (not just mothering children, but also looking after people, plants, and animals), were squashed through the years.

Women had to suppress their goddess nature to feed the more masculine traits such as logic, reasoning, survival, and black-and-white thinking. Society devalued the jobs that needed Divine Feminine skills, such as teaching, nursing, and the caring professions, and deemed them as less worthy.

Seeds are sprouting

But little seeds are beginning to sprout within us once more. Your inner goddess is waking up, making herself known.

You can encourage her by practising self-care, such as forest walks or candlelit baths or even just having a cuppa while watching the birds, or moon rituals. You can also aid the process by raising your fellow sisters up and supporting them. By lifting women up, as a collective we are enabling all goddesses to step into their power, all women, regardless of age, size, background, or ethnicity. You could also do this by supporting charities which specifically help women or support women’s fair-trade collectives, the opportunities to raise your sisters up are endless.

It all starts with self-acceptance. It’s time to appreciate the goddesses we are- the beautiful, intuitive powerhouses of love and insight. Take a deep breath and really connect with that gorgeous goddess inside of you- she’s ready to blossom; let her out to work her magic on the world!

It all starts with YOU!!!
