Speaking to Lusa, a source from the municipality explained that the executive decided not to go ahead with the tax, responding to the fear that some tour operators were showing after the fires of September 2024.
“There were operators who started to complain about cancellations of reservations after the fires and it was decided, after conversations with them, to suspend the measure, to avoid it having a negative impact on the economy”, he noted.
When asked about a date for the application of the tax that had been decided by the municipal bodies, the source said that the issue will have to be agreed with the operators in advance.
In August 2024, the city hall announced that it planned to start charging a fee in 2025, in the amount of one to 1.5 euros for each night spent in the municipality, up to a maximum of three.
