The closed sites under the Cultural Heritage Authority are the Freixo Archaeological Area (Marco de Canaveses, in the Porto district), the Citânia de S. Luzia (Viana do Castelo), the Tibães Monastery (Braga), and the Panóias Sanctuary (Vila Real), the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports stated in a social media post.
In the message, the public institute explains that the closures planned until Thursday arise "due to worsening weather conditions and the very high risk of rural fires in much of the country."
On Saturday, the government declared a "State of Alert" for the entire mainland between midnight on Sunday and 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, involving a series of exceptional protective and preventive measures.
On Saturday, following this alert, the Sintra City Hall also decided to close several parks and monuments in the municipality, including the Pena National Park and Palace, the Capuchos Convent, the Monserrate Park and Palace, the Moorish Castle, and Quinta da Regaleira.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Area municipality's ban includes access, movement, and lingering in forested areas, with the Sintra National Palace and Queluz National Palace remaining open.
