APAA’s President and ‘Legacy Pet Plan’ Ambassador always finds it an amazing, refreshing and uplifting experience. As do all the visitors. ARA’s CIC, Sid Richardson and his hand-picked team are ready to give visitors the ‘treatment’. “After all, they’ve made the adventurous journey here and with the promise of looking after their pet's future.”

Legacy was a Battersea Dogs Home original and over the last two or three years, the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve and Animal Rescue Algarve have made a few changes to match up with individual requirements with future ‘Pet Planners’ as needed.

“We know some people come for a second look, as did Tricia and David Guildford. They have a rescue dog from ‘Tiny Shelter’ and want to ensure its future happiness. We don’t know what is in store for any of us, illness or even death.” Anita smiles. “We can either pretend it won’t happen to us, or accept the burden and make a choice.” True.


Jane cannot have a dog but has decided to sponsor one through ARA’s monthly scheme. 7.50€ a month will help look after your doggie and ensure you get a regular update on how it is getting on and regular ARA news. “VIP treatment!” Sid knows that at the core of the ‘Legacy Pet Plan’ (not to be confused with ‘Sponsorship’) is the care that your personal pets will receive. “We ensure they’re looked after, re-chipped, vet care until re-homed.
