The Festival, whose first edition sold out registrations for most of its 50 hiking trails, with over 800 participants, is promoted by the Regional Tourism Board (ERT) of Alentejo and Ribatejo, with the support of the municipalities of Alentejo. The goal is to promote the region as a hiking destination, thanks to its vast network of ecological trails, which are characterised by biodiversity, culture, and heritage.

The Alentejo Walking Festival 2025 begins with the "Municipal Walking Trail Networks" Conference at the Centro Ciência Viva do Lousal "Mina de Ciência" in Grândola on October 30, where the new "Pyrite Belt Walking Trail Network" will also be presented. This will be followed on November 1 by the Promotional Walk in Mértola, followed by a social gathering and lunch.

Over the weekend of November 8 and 9, the goal is to "Enjoy the Alentejo Walking Tour," which is why the municipalities of the Alentejo are offering walking tours throughout the region, passing through various points of interest and adaptable to all interested parties, with varying levels of difficulty.

The walking tours are free and require prior registration through the initiative's website at http://alentejowalkingfestival.pt
