“This medical device will soon be available to users of the SNS [National Health Service],” Infarmed indicates in a statement.
The Accu-Chek SmartGuide is a real-time continuous interstitial glucose sensor and will soon be available to users with type 1 diabetes mellitus, aged 18 or older, who use multiple daily doses of insulin or non-integrated infusion systems.
With 14 days of use per sensor, the Accu-Chek SmartGuide will be an alternative to the Freestyle Libre 2 Plus, until now the only subsidised device, according to Infarmed.
“Interstitial glucose monitoring technology allows for continuous, accurate, and comfortable assessment, avoiding frequent finger pricks and contributing to better metabolic control”.
Infarmed adds that the measure reinforces the SNS's commitment “to promoting the quality of life of people with diabetes, guaranteeing equitable access to advanced health solutions for those who need them.”
