First held in 2014 through a partnership between the Algarve Tourism Association and EDGA, the tournament has become one of the most cherished fixtures in the Golf for the Disabled (G4D) calendar. It welcomes golfers with a wide range of physical, neurological, intellectual, and sensory impairments, and has built a reputation for both its strong competitive spirit and its genuinely inclusive atmosphere, whereby established players welcome and encourage first-time participants.

A full field of 83 golfers representing 18 nations will compete across Gross, Nett, and Stableford divisions, with golf Handicap Indexes ranging from plus-1.5 to 35.

This year’s tournament also includes important off-course initiatives designed to support the future of inclusive golf. EDGA’s eligibility team will meet to review and improve classification processes, ensuring fairness and accessibility for players, while a workshop with national golf federations will focus on sharing knowledge and creating new opportunities for people with a disability to get involved in the game in their geographic region.

Importantly, the EDGA Algarve Open is free to attend and the public is warmly invited to come along to sample the atmosphere and watch many highly skilled golfers in action.

Anyone who has a disability, or knows someone who does, is actively encouraged to visit during the tournament. EDGA representatives will be on hand to explain how individuals can get involved, try golf for the first time, and begin their own journey in the sport.

The EDGA Algarve Open is one of more than 130 events that EDGA stages, supports, or sanctions each year as part of its global player pathway, helping people with a disability to enjoy the game — from first experience to regular play and, for some, elite-level competition, including The G4D Open, the G4D Tour, and the European Championships.
