For those living abroad, tax issues can cause some concern, especially because it's not always easy to understand how to access this information remotely. Fortunately, today it's possible to check any tax debts simply and completely online.
In this week's Deco Alerta article, they explain how you can check if you have debts with the tax authorities, request your debt-free certificate and, if there is any missing amount, regularise your situation – all without leaving home.
Currently, it's possible to check your tax debts online, meaning you don't need to go to a service counter, which is very convenient.
As long as you have your access password to the Tax Portal (and your tax identification number), you can access all the information about your tax situation.
How to check tax debts?
To check if you have tax debts, you should check your personal area. Here's how:
Access the Tax Portal;
Click on “Citizens”;
Click on “Services”;
Search for “Tax debt inquiry”;
Choose “debts in tax enforcement” or “debts in voluntary collection”;
To authenticate on the Tax Authority Portal, enter your NIF and access password;
Check the list of active tax enforcement proceedings. If you have no tax debts, you will be given the information that there is no procedural information.
What is a debt and no-debt certificate?
A no-debt certificate is intended to prove that the taxpayer has no debts with the Tax and Customs Authority or, if the situation is not regularized, what the amount due is and whether the regularization process is underway.
This certificate is valid for three months and you can request it free of charge on the Tax Authority Portal. To do so, you must:
Access the Tax Authority Portal;
Click on “Citizen” and then “Services”;
Scroll down to “Documents and Certificates”;
Click on “Request certificate”;
Choose “Debt and no debt” and confirm;
Click on “Certificate” to obtain the document in PDF format.
If there are tax debts, how can you pay them?
If there are active tax debts, you can also regularise your situation online. You can pay tax debts through online banking or via an ATM.
If you are unable to pay the total debt, you can find out how to arrange an instalment plan and what the conditions are. DECO can help you with this process.
