Volunteer participation is open to the entire community, subject to mandatory registration through the official platform, and registration must be renewed for each campaign.
The institution emphasises that volunteers are fundamental to the smooth operation of the campaign in any of the 140 stores distributed throughout the various municipalities of the Algarve. Tasks include distributing bags, receiving donations, and receiving food. In the Faro and Portimão warehouses, help is also needed to unload, sort food, and fold bags.
The president of the Algarve Food Bank, Nuno Cabrita Alves, appeals for “the unity of the Algarve community in carrying out this campaign, which is fundamental to supporting thousands of families and bringing some comfort during this Christmas season,” also reminding everyone that poverty continues to be “a structural problem in the country.”
Help can be given directly in stores, through food donations or vouchers, but also digitally on the website www.alimentestaideia.pt , as well as through financial support at www.bancoalimentar.pt/faca-um-donativo or via MB Way, to the number 913 738 587. The institution also reminds that companies in the food sector – from producers to distributors – can donate surplus food throughout the year.
During the last campaign, held in May 2025, the Algarve Food Bank collected 120.24 tons of food, which reached approximately 15,000 vulnerable people through partner institutions.
