According to the CML's vice-president, Gonçalo Reis (PSD), the first municipal budget of the current term (2025-2029) is a "balanced, secure and considered" budget of €1,345 million for 2026, slightly lower than the €1,359 million planned for this year.
Gonçalo Reis, who is also the councillor responsible for the Finance portfolio, highlighted that the executive plans to invest €12 million in the purchase of 54 more vehicles, 20 more solid waste trucks and seven street sweepers.
Thus, it was indicated, the city hall will have 96% of its urban cleaning fleet powered by electricity.
The city hall also plans to hire 300 street cleaners and 30 drivers.
The proposed budget for next year also includes €10 million for the modernization of the public lighting network and €14.6 million for intervention and requalification of public spaces in the city.
In the area of green spaces, the Tapada das Necessidades requalification project stands out, with a planned investment of €3.1 million.
This is the first municipal budget of the current term (2025-2029), proposed by the new PSD/CDS-PP/IL administration, under the presidency of the re-elected Carlos Moedas (PSD), who continues to govern Lisbon without an absolute majority.
In the previous term (2021-2025), the four budgets of the PSD/CDS-PP leadership (IL was not part of the municipal executive) were approved due to the abstention of the PS, and the rest of the opposition – PCP, BE, Livre and Cidadãos Por Lisboa (elected by the PS/Livre coalition) – voted against.
In the municipal budget for this year, 2025, the council estimated an expenditure of €1,359 million, slightly higher than the €1,303 million projected for 2024.
Currently, the executive, which is composed of 17 members, includes eight elected members from the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition, who are the only ones with assigned portfolios and who govern without an absolute majority. In the opposition are four councillors from the PS, two from Chega, one from Livre, one from BE and one from the PCP.
