Portugal will host the 25th edition of this continental tournament for youth national teams, which has been held annually since 2002 for athletes under 19 years old. The next two events were already awarded to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2026 and Hungary in 2027, and Italy has now been designated as the host for 2029.

UEFA also awarded Belgium and Turkey the organization of the Women's Under-17 European Championships in 2028 and 2029, respectively, and chose the hosts for the men's events.

Lithuania and Moldova will host the European Under-17 Championship in those two years, the 2025 edition of which was won by Portugal, the recent world champions in that category.

The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands will host the European Under-19 Championships in 2027, 2028, and 2029, respectively.

The next meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee is scheduled for February 11, 2026, one day before the organization's 50th Ordinary Congress in Brussels, Belgium.
