According to the council, with the new infrastructure in operation, the current level crossing will be closed to road traffic, and “crossing the railway line in the city will be done exclusively via the new infrastructure”.

The council clarifies that “the changes in road traffic result solely from the closure of the level crossing and the operation of the overpass”, as well as the “normal adjustments associated with this change, both for those who travel on that axis and in terms of public transport operation”.

On the roads adjacent to the new viaduct, there are no changes to traffic.

Public transport

Regarding the Vai e Vem | Transportes Urbanos de Portimão urban public transport, and as a direct consequence of the closure of the level crossing, adjustments to the routes of lines 12, 21N, 31, 32, 35, and 37 will come into effect from December 18th.

The municipality also states that "lines 31 and 32 will be replaced by the new line 30," which "will ensure service to the same areas and reinforce urban mobility," guaranteeing "a direct connection between the Portimão Hospital and 'Aqua Portimão,' with a frequency of 30 minutes in both directions."
