Maria da Conceição is preparing to celebrate her 113th birthday on December 22nd, a date that will be marked with a special celebration, according to a report by Postal.
The birthday celebration is scheduled for 3 pm and will take place in the new building of the Residential Structure for the Elderly of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of São Brás de Alportel, the institution where Maria da Conceição resides and is affectionately called "Queen".
Born in 1912, as a child, she witnessed the creation of the municipality of São Brás de Alportel and, throughout her long life, lived through some of the most significant periods of contemporary Portuguese history. She lived through the years of the dictatorship, witnessed the effects of the Colonial War, saw the establishment of democracy with the Revolution of April 25th, and witnessed Portugal's integration into the then European Economic Community, among many other events that shaped the country over more than a century.
