The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), says that between Monday and Friday (December 22-26), “the weather in the Madeira archipelago will be influenced by the interaction of an anticyclone located in the Azores region, which will extend northeast from the 23rd, and by a low-pressure area over the Iberian Peninsula, carrying a mass of cold air in its circulation”.
IPMA forecasts periods of rain or showers from Tuesday afternoon onwards in Madeira. After Monday, “with a low probability of precipitation, from the afternoon of the 23rd onwards, periods of rain or showers are expected, especially on the northern slopes and in the highlands of Madeira Island,” the institute states.
Highs of 21°C
“The wind will be from the north/northwest, sometimes blowing strongly in the highlands and in the eastern and western extremes of Madeira Island from the afternoon of the 23rd onwards,” but IPMA notes that “the temperature should not undergo significant changes, with maximum temperatures between 19° and 21°C, varying between 7° and 9°C in the highlands.”
The minimum temperature “should vary between 14° and 16°C, remaining between 3° and 5°C in the highlands,” it concludes.
"On the north coast, waves will be from the northwest with a significant height of four to five meters, gradually decreasing to two to three meters" starting Tuesday, and "on the south coast, waves will be from the west/southwest with one to two meters," the note says.
