According to the latest data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), the region recorded a 4.1% increase in tourism revenue, outpacing the growth in overnight stays (+0.5%).

These results demonstrate the destination’s ability to generate greater value per visitor, even during the low season and despite the adverse weather conditions that marked the start of the year.

The domestic market played a crucial role in this performance, with a 6.3% increase in overnight stays by residents and a 1% increase in domestic guest numbers.

Another distinctive feature of the region is the average length of stay, which stood at 3.82 nights — a figure significantly higher than the national average of 2.37 nights. This ability to retain tourists for longer periods boosts the regional economy's direct economic impact, strengthening the Algarve’s competitiveness against other destinations.

For André Gomes, President of Turismo do Algarve, these indicators confirm the region’s strength as a year-round destination and the effectiveness of the strategy to combat seasonality. The effect of the calendar, which included the Carnival period, combined with the dynamics of the domestic market, has enabled sustained growth.

These figures reinforce the Algarve’s position as the country’s main driver of tourism, with the focus now shifting not only to visitor numbers but, above all, to the quality and economic value generated by each stay.
